Name: Mitch
Nicknames: 'Pet', 'Puppy-Dog', 'Pooch', 'Fluffy', 'Fuzz-butt', 'Bob-Tail'
Breed: Australian Shepherd
Age: 4
Height: 55 cm
Likes:
• Humans
• Food- most notably human food. He's lived alongside his owner and human food. He has standards. (Despite this he does has a fondness for eating flowers and the occasional butterfly).
• Socializing with other dogs
• Travelling and being on the move
• Fetch- Especially when it involves bringing back a completely different object to what was thrown.
Dislikes:
Strengths:
• Optimism: In almost any situation Mitch can find the positive. In fact, it's unusual to see him in any mood that does not reflect optimism. It can make him a soothing presence, just as much as it can make him an irritable one. Overall his optimism makes him a friendly individual who is willing to associate with all other creatures on neutral grounds.
• Stamina: As a working dog who is always on the move, Mitch has a high energy level and a great deal of stamina when it comes to travelling long distances.
Weaknesses:
• Fixation: Once set on a certain idea or individual, he has a tendency to become obsessive. Whilst his 'fixations' are usually playful and entirely harmless, they make him inflexible to compromise and often unwilling to bend to the will of others if they oppose his pre-set ideas.
• Oblivious (or just plain stupid?): Mitch has something to say about everything- whether it's a chat with a pigeon or a discussion with a charging rhino. Mitch treats everyone equally which can often lead to poor judgement and the implication that he has a lack of respect. He can appear oblivious to danger and potentially dangerous situations arising, simply because he's so busy talking or distracted. This is most likely a product of having been raised alongside humans where threats and fending for oneself are controlled by a more competent being.
• Attention Span: Mitch has a short attention span and puppy-like tendencies, making him poor at following direct and complex commands.
Fears:
• Losing his human: Even though Mitch sports a relatively blasé attitude towards his owner, he is dedicated to her. He keeps relatively quiet about his feelings on the matter and tends to brush the topic off with humour, yet his entire reason for such behaviour is for the protection of his human- not wanting to open her up to attack should he betray how important she is to him. Mitch fears most situations that would lead to the harm of his owner or their separation. He prides himself upon being able to protect her and has anxieties about not being able to defend her adequately from harm.
• Being an outcast or loner.
• Injury- Mitch fears being seriously injured and unable to find his way home.
• The sickness- He is aware that humans are at a great risk, and shows visible concern whenever his human is weak.
Ambitions:
Personality:
Mitch is a joker at heart. He is free-spirited and cursed with sharp sense of humour that can often land him in trouble. Whilst being uninhibited, he will boldly meet with just about any canine or animal with little fear of consequence. He is the sheer definition of living in the moment, loving nothing more than the simple pleasures such as getting his paws wet or rolling in the mud- much to the dismay of his owner, Ellie. The security of living alongside his owner and having a regular supply of food vastly alters his priorities, making his instincts more more docile and friendly. Due to his playful nature he can come across as a touch immature and even stupid due to his blithe nature towards considerable threats. When confronted, he offers a laid-back stance, and behaves in a manner that is almost always at ease. This can be seen as a touch disrespectful, but it can help avoid direct confrontation. He is not quick to judge and will happily spend his time with just about anyone, even if they don't particularly enjoy the interaction as much as he does. Through his cheeky nature he will often playfully ruffle the fur of others, testing their boundaries in a lighthearted manner. Life is essentially a giant joke to Mitch and it is beyond unusual to see him with anything other than a large goofy grin on his face.
Mitch's chilled attitude also lends to him being a bit of a flirt. Although his flirtatious nature is intended for humourous purposes rather than in an imposing manner. Pick up lines include: 'Hey, doesn't my tail look good in this rain?--....Wait. WHERE IS MY TAIL?!' etc etc.
Build: Mitch is proportionate in size with a relatively short stride and an average build for his breed. He could be mistaken for either muscular or plump given the thickness of his coat, but the harsh reality is that 90% of his build is made up of his thick double-layered fur. As much as Mitch may boast about being muscular and well-built under his fur, it's probably just a lie.
History:
Mitch grew up as a family pet in his owner Ellie's household. His puphood consisted of all of the usual things such as walks in the park, agility, tricks and games of fetch. He has always been around humans and loved the affection they offered. The sudden change that the sickness brought was a harsh wake-up call to him. Family members in Ellie's household became sick in very fast succession, each being hospitalized and passing away over the space of a month. His human, Ellie, had not caught the highly contagious virus. Deeply depressed by the passing of her family she remained in the house, fearful of the outside and the imposing sickness. The news channels broadcasted the extent of the disaster. Slowly even the broadcasts faded away into repeats as the reporters became sick and TV channels broke down. In the midst of all of this, Mitch grew anxious and concerned.
Whilst Ellie had refused to leave the house in her grief and fear of the sickness, Mitch had decided to go in search of what remained of their small town. The scent of sickness and death oozed out of the houses and familiar friends and local dogs lay dead in their homes- trapped after their owners had passed away. Frightened by the extent of the damage, Mitch stole some food from one of the abandoned stores that had been broken in and looted by the remaining survivors. He returned with what food he could carry and presented it to Ellie. Shortly thereafter she decided that the pair could not survive in the run-down city, and perhaps their chances of survival would be greater in the wilderness where the sickness may not have reached. Ever since they have been travelling across territories and living in the wilderness. Mitch works as a scout for Ellie, helping to flush prey and communicating with the packs in each area. He has become a familiar face to most and is usually accepted due to the lack of threat he poses. Ellie is a kind-natured girl who cares for animals, often giving some of their remaining meals that will not keep to the dogs in the area. This has eased the tensions and suspicions that some hold against her.
Skills/Role in community:
• Fetching information and travelling swiftly across territories
• Communication: Mitch has a talent for talking. When the situation calls for a smooth-talker or mediator he is a good port of call.
• Whilst he remains loyal to his human first and foremost, he can be cooperative with other packs and individuals. This aid can include passing messages to other territories and fetching goods from the industrialized territories where fewer animals venture.
Affiliations: Ellie (human), Ania, Raksha, Naren, Marra
Items of note: Always seen wearing a distinctive blue bandanna around his neck.
Features: Mitch's left eye is ice blue, his right eye is split into blue and brown colouration. A feature of his breed is the distinctive lack of a tail.

Dislikes:
- Confrontation and fights- Mitch can deal with confrontation in a relaxed manner and will not challenge other dogs. If the confrontation leads to violence Mitch is out of his comfort zone completely, having no experience with fighting whatsoever.
- The leash. It is the ultimate punishment. And shameful. How dare the human restrain him.
- Being insulted- Mitch has been subject to a degree of mocking for being a 'pet', something which he sees little humour in.
- Being ignored or blanked- Mitch enjoys conversation and quite likes being the centre of attention.
- Sickness- It sets him on edge and makes him uncomfortable after he witnessed first-hand the damage it did to the human population. He has a dislike of the scent of sickness as it is a stark reminder of the danger it poses and the death he witnessed at the hands of it.
Strengths:
• Optimism: In almost any situation Mitch can find the positive. In fact, it's unusual to see him in any mood that does not reflect optimism. It can make him a soothing presence, just as much as it can make him an irritable one. • Stamina: As a working dog who is always on the move, Mitch has a high energy level and a great deal of stamina when it comes to travelling long distances.
- Floof and Bandanna- Although these may seem relatively minor, they're useful to Mitch. Being inexperienced at fighting, his thick coat protects him from bites, often leaving the attacker with a mouthful of fur. Likewise, his bandanna has protected his neck before in various scraps.
- Smooth Talker- Mitch does not pose a threat to the wild dogs and their packs. He is experienced with travelling and has met many animals and canines across his travels. Being the social and laid-back kind, he is often good at smoothing out situations and finding resolutions by talking things through. He is not confrontational and is quite skillful at weaving his way through a situation with his words.
- Loyalty- Mitch is devoted to those he cares about. Admittedly he likes just about everyone, but those he has a special fondness for he goes above and beyond the call of duty to please.
Weaknesses:
• Fixation: Once set on a certain idea or individual, he has a tendency to become obsessive. Whilst his 'fixations' are usually playful and entirely harmless, they make him inflexible to compromise and often unwilling to bend to the will of others if they oppose his pre-set ideas.

• Attention Span: Mitch has a short attention span and puppy-like tendencies, making him poor at following direct and complex commands.
- Fighting Ability- Having grown up as a house pet, Mitch has no real fighting skills. He has had no combat practice and is useless in a fight.
• The sickness- He is aware that humans are at a great risk, and shows visible concern whenever his human is weak.
Ambitions:
- Eating Sheila. Think of how big the drumsticks would be.
- Having a safe place to live and not having to worry about the wellbeing of those he cares for.
